Building a Stronger, Fairer Laikipia: Why I am Running for Senator in 2027

Hello, people of Laikipia County!

My name is Paul Gakungu Mihango, and I am stepping forward to offer my service, energy, and leadership as your candidate for Senator of Laikipia County in the 2027 Kenya General Election.

Laikipia is a land of incredible potential. From our vast agricultural farms in Laikipia West and South to our livestock-rich landscapes in Laikipia North, our county is powered by hard-working men and women. Yet, too many of our families still face persistent challenges: water scarcity, human-wildlife conflict, security concerns, inadequate market access for farm produce, and unfulfilled opportunities for our youth.

I believe Laikipia deserves a strong, accountable, and accessible voice at the national level—a leader who puts the interests of the people first.

What Does a Senator Actually Do?

Before talking about promises, it is important to be clear on what the Constitution of Kenya (Article 96) mandates a Senator to do. A Senator is not a governor or an MP; the Senate has distinct constitutional responsibilities:

  1. Protecting County Interests: Representing Laikipia’s voice in Parliament and ensuring national policies benefit local communities.
  2. Resource Allocation: Determining how national revenue is shared among Kenya’s 47 counties, fighting for Laikipia to get its fair share.
  3. Oversight: Monitoring how national funds sent to the County Government are spent, ensuring transparency, preventing waste, and holding local leadership accountable.
  4. Legislation: Passing laws that govern county functions, devolving powers effectively, and safeguarding local autonomy.

My Vision: How I Will Serve the People of Laikipia

As your Senator, I will focus on converting the power of this constitutional office into real, tangible benefits for every household in Laikipia.

1. Fighting for Laikipia’s Fair Share of National Funds

Every shilling allocated to Laikipia must work for the resident. I will push for equitable revenue-sharing formulas in Senate to ensure our health centers are equipped, feeder roads are maintained, and county services reach every ward.

2. Safeguarding Security & Harmonious Coexistence

Peace is the foundation of prosperity. I will work closely with national security agencies, local peace committees, and community elders to address cattle rustling, human-wildlife conflict, and land disputes so that every farmer and pastorist can live and work in safety.

3. Championing Water & Agricultural Resilience

Water is life in Laikipia. I will use legislative and oversight tools to advocate for national water projects, mega-dams, and water-harvesting initiatives that benefit both crop farming and pastoralism.

4. Demanding Accountability and Transparency

Devolution was created to bring resources closer to you. Through strict oversight, I will ensure that the funds allocated to Laikipia County are spent prudently on genuine development projects, not lost to inefficiency.

5. Empowering Youth, Women, and Micro-Enterprises

Our young people need opportunities, not rhetoric. I will advocate for national policies and partnerships that expand vocational training, leverage technology, support MSMEs, and link local produce to broader markets.

Let’s Walk This Journey Together

Leadership is a partnership. Paul Mihango for Senator Laikipia County is not just a campaign slogan—it is a commitment to accessible, respectful, and results-driven representation.

Over the coming months, I look forward to visiting every village, town, and ward across Laikipia West, Laikipia East, and Laikipia North. I want to listen to your priorities, share ideas, and build a unified plan for our future.

Together, we can build a strong, peaceful, and prosperous Laikipia.

Thank you for your support, prayers, and trust. Let us move forward together.

Paul Gakungu Mihango
